People see what makes sense to them, reality notwithstanding.

He was convinced that it was only a question of time. Victory would eventually be his. Something had to click – solely based on the law of odds.

I spent years trying to convince him that it was not sufficient to hope diligently, one had to work wisely too. He was no all-round fixer upper to keep venturing into a zillion different business in a dozen different domains. “Everything that you stumble across is not a treasure waiting to be discovered. You cannot jump into the fray if the only tool in your kit is optimism. Know your strengths and your limits.”

“Stop being negative,” was the only response that I got.

The cheques started bouncing. Ordinary day to day expenses became a challenge. Creditors came calling. A foreclosure notice was pasted on the door. I was too ashamed to face our community. But his carousel kept spinning.

Finally, I had no choice but to jump.
